General Objectives

Our objectives for the Punta de Mita Foundation involve developing resident-led, community-based development organizations to transform Corral del Risco and Emiliano Zapata into healthy communities – good places to live, do business, work and raise families.

Our main objectives are to provide capital, technical expertise, training and information to support the development of local leadership, in crease public safety, improve educational opportunities, promote positive economic development, and improve housing and environmental conditions. Our primary means of doing this will be through helping existing non-profit organizations and helping to establish new ones that can provide this support.

Community Needs

Education, Children & Youth & Adults

Good schools, child care centers, parks and playing fields are requirements for every healthy neighborhood.

Child Care
Our goal:
To offer financial and technical assistance to develop new, quality child care facilities in neighborhoods that need them.

Education- Children
Our Goal:
To support existing local schools and teachers as well as enrichment programs.

Education- Adults
Our Goal:
To support adult education programs that increase oppurtunities for employment.

Youth and Recreation
Our Goal:
To provide grants and technical assistance for the creation or redevelopment of community recreation areas.

Housing

Local Initiatives
Our Goal:
To support affordable housing from a community development perspective through local initiatives. This strategy, could include financing, technical assistance and educational resource in order to improve existing homes and build new ones.

Vacant properties
Our Goal:
To support efforts to clean up vacant lots and abandoned buildings. These decrease property values, discourage development, are asthetically displeasing and are magnets for crime. Many have just become junk yards for the neighborhood with old abandoned cars and garbage.

Economic Development

Our Goals:
To facilitate job training, job creation and capacity building for local business owners.

Commercial Revitalization

Our Goal:
To support efforts aimed at reviving the commercial corridors of Punta de Mita. These are the so-called “main streets” that frequently act as a neighborhood pulse. By creating public community areas business owners, residents, politicians and police can have a venue to organize a common vision for neighborhood business revitalization.

Sustainable Smart Growth

Our Goal:
To provide direction and smart growth to assist the communities with town planning. When done correctly, community development expands economic opportunities while protecting environmental and natural resources. It creates vibrant places where people want to live and visit, and preserves the unique character of communities. Smart growth aims to improve quality of life for all people by providing a strategic lens for development efforts.

Public Safety

Our Goal:
To improve public safety. This is critical to Punta de Mita, and we would all benefit from it. There is a need for long-term partnerships among law enforcement, community leaders, and other key parties in the communities to reduce persistent crime, disorder and fear. No neighborhood plagued by crime and disorder is attractive to residents or tourists. Addre ssing those issues is critical to successful community development.

Punta de Mita Foundation Structure

The Foundation consists of a Board of Directors with twelve members, five of which also serve on the Executive Board. There is an Advisory Board, consisting of individuals who can provide extensive expertise which will meet less frequently than the regular board. An Executive Director, along with an assistant, make up the administrative staff for the Foundation.

Volunteers

An integral and important part of any non-profit organization are volunteers. The Punta de Mita Foundation and its partner NPOs can always use more people to assist with their endeavors. There are many ways to help out. If you are interested, please contact our office.
