Economic development
Creating a Plaza and Entrance for Nuevo Corral del Risco... but more important bringing the pieces together to better service the demand for tourism services in the region!
One of the ten areas of concern that the Foundation has identify through a Smart Growth Study is Employment. The primary employer has been the constuction industry as residents have taken advanatage of the amount of development that has taken place in the area. Construction is facing a downturn and many job have been lost. Tourism would certainly be one that could be better for the towns considering their location and close proximity to fishing, diving, snorkeling, whale-watching, surfing, etc.
As a result, The Punta de Mita Foundation has made “Proyecto Integral one of its top primary projects to work on. It is called "Integral" because it involves many components in order to better servide the demand for tourism in the region.
This project would not only make the area more attractive, provide a plaza for a town that currently does not have one, but it would stimulate the local economy by attracting tourists to the region.
The map to the right shows the location of where the new plaza would be located. It is across the street from the existing large parking lot, and diagonally behind the El Anclote condominiums. The green area shows no longer exists, a culvert has been established for water/rain run-off.
The drawing to the left shows a side view of the proposed new plaza. On the right side would be the entrance to the plaza. People would have access from Calle Pescador or they would park across the street in the parking lot and cross the street. This would become another entrance to Avenida Anclote, if not the main entrance.
The drawing to the right shows a top view of the proposed new plaza. In the center is the kiosk or bandstand. It is surrounded by trees and park benches. Around the perimeter wall of the plaza would be small commercial spaces that local vendors could sell handicrafts. People enter from the top side, pass through the plaza, and follow the walk-way show in the lower right-hand corner, down to Avenida Anclote.
This last drawing shows a top view of the proposed walkway or access from the plaza to Avenida Anclote. It would be lined with trees and gardens and would enter onto Avenida Anclote where there currently is a road that leads out onto the lighthouse jetty. Plans also call for this jetty to be developed into a walking path or “Malecon”, with a smaller plaza at the beginning of the jetty. A plan of how this would look is being developed.
Bringing the players together to build the Plaza is one first step of the entire project. The other components also involve multiple players and often one cannot move forward until the other has finished their responsibility. Our main goal is coordination, oversight and leadership to ensure we bring it to fruition.
Welcome to Punta de Mita Foundation
